Evaluation: Question 4

From my thorough music video audience feed back I've learned many things. Firstly I've learned that editing was a strong feature of our music video. From the video above my audience have said that the cutting was on the beat and that the edits such as fast motion and the animation, were really strong. I am happy my audience liked the edits as when planning on the blogs, my group and I wanted thy to be a strong feature.
From audience feedback, improvements that could be made to make the video better, were more locations, change in costume and a variety of camera shots from different angles. Taking all this on board, I've thought of areas where I could have included these improvements. For example, I could have filmed in another location such as Canarby Street a it still goes with my genre conventions and its somewhere where my target audience would shop and be familiar with. This would have also allowed for a change in costume, maybe wearing clothes from one of the shops on Canarby Street. From watching back my music video, I've noticed how I haven't had many high angle shots. Again for an improvement, I could add have added in high angle shots when filming on Paget Street to make it make it more diverse.
From their overall feedback, my audience liked the artists performance in the music video, they believed what they saw (which was the plan) and would definitely buy Nabilla J's album.

From my in depth audience feedback about my digipak and advert, I've learned quite a few things. One of them being that both my digipak and advert fit my genre and still relate back to my music video ,even though its in a slightly different colour scheme. My audience also liked the strong images on my digipak as it shows 3 different sides to the artist (the first being a calm side, then a fun side ten inside, a wild side).
For improvements, my feedback has let me now that I could have added in an extra sign on my digipak of where it could be bought from and a bright sticker saying "OUT NOW" or something similar. I did think of this when making my advert but I thought I would just stick to the plain and simple version. I now know that adding it in would have made my digipak extra special.
Overall, from my feedback, my audience said they liked the simplicity of my digipak because many other CDs out now are way over the top; and they liked how strong the front panel picture is because it is noticeable.
The audience feedback was very useful because it let me go over my work and pick out what I could have done better. Self criticism of your own work is sometimes a lot more useful than getting other people to criticise your work.

Final blog post: closing down.

Aaaaaaah, it's all over now!! I've come a bloody long way but here I am!
It's been such a journey of emotions. First, there was excitement of doing a music video and picking out songs to do, then there was content with planning and research blogs, then there was annoyance at Final Cut Pro and photoshop and finally there was absolute stress at deadlines. My last emotion is relief! I'm not gonna lie, I am happy this is all over, but at the same time, I have enjoyed having an outlet to be creative. I'm happy with my products and it has been time well spent (even though time has not been my friend lately). I guess it's the end of an era...until next week rolls around and we have to start exam work *cue the stress*
So I bid blogger a farewell! I guess it's time to get catch up on sleep and head back to the normal media classrooms...

Evaluation: Final Progress Review

How does your research, planning and evaluation differ from A2 to AS?

There was a big difference in the way I planned, researched and evaluated my media product. Firstly, my research was in depth and consistent. It related effectively to the music video and ancillary product because each blog post showed my creativity, thoughts and thinking process in new ideas for the music video. The planning was where most of my blogging was at its highest. I planned every aspect in creating the music video from travelling to the locations, filming at locations costumes, art work and whether it is suitable to be filmed, stop motion animation etc. The list goes on! I also used numerous      ICT which help demonstrate and show my creativity. Whereas in AS, my blogging was very limited and followed the basic structure of the blogging checklist provided by the media department. My blogging lacked in creativity and in depth reproach, planning and evaluation of the final media product (the thriller). Furthermore, in terms of my evaluation from last year, I didn't manage to complete all 4 sections which means I missed on important reflection. However, in A2, my evaluation is complete and I covered all the important areas to answer the evaluation question.

What would you have done differently if given the opportunity to do it again?

Nothing, as I believe I have improved from AS media studies in terms of my approach to blogging mentioned in the question above so therefore I would not have changed anything.

Is there any gaps in my Blog?

No, I have checked over my entire blogposts and also checked over the blogging checklist and there is no gaps in my blog.

EVALUATION: QUESTION 3 (part 1 & 2)

*sidenote

I've just suddenly realised that 10yrs ago, nobody would have been able to do what I have done. These new technologies have allowed to basically become my own producer. I've created my own music video and digipak and advert literally at the comfort of my own home (sometimes). It's revolutionary to be honest, and I'm happy and proud to be apart of the movement.

Final Blog: Closing Up

Fiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiinnnnnnnnnaaaaaaaalllllllllllllllllllllllllllyyyyyyyyyyyyyy!!!
After all those media deadlines and stressing out- I'm proud to say that I'm finally done. While it has been very time consuming, tough and tiring- I can't deny that I have enjoyed being able to create Nabilla J and "Foundations" (even IF Final Cut Pro & Photoshop had to be dealt with also). On this note, I will like to OFFICIALLY say goodbye to Blogger and all the burdens along with it.  Byeeeeeeee

Evaluation Q4

What have you learned from your audience feedback?

Above is a clip that I made which demonstrates the events after the cinema screening, and what our target audience felt when they saw "Foundations". Firstly, the reactions to our music video showed a good atmosphere, by capturing the audiences attention with our many editing techniques. The clip shows that stop motion animation and quick cuts is what made our music video better, where stop motion was used as our motif and quick cuts added to the movement of our music video. Within this blog post, you will find I have included a picture of our viewership and you will see that we have had 44 plays since "Foundations" was posted onto Vimeo. The clip above shows that in terms of improvement and changes, I could have used more camera angles and positions which I also agree with as it would have made our music video look more realistic and given it a better appeal. Overall, what I learned from the audience feedback was that movement is very important to include as it doesn't get boring and because our target audience are teenagers and young adults it's important that they're always drawn in. Also another thing I learnt, was that using a variety of camera angles is always essential as it introduces the audience to the background and scenery and allows them to know what is going on in the environment surrounding the artist.

Planning Evaluation Q4

Question 4 asks "What have you learned from your audience feedback?"

When answering this question I will focus on:

  • Audience Reactions at the cinema
- Where they good?

- They didn't like it?

  • How the target audience felt my music video could be improved?
  • What my target audience liked about my music video
  • Changes I would make if I had another chance
  • What I learnt from what my target audience had to say
What media technology will you use for this question?

When creating question 4, I will use the clips recorded to show what the target audience had to say. I will also link to Vimeo to show audience ratings and viewership.

Evaluation Q2: Preparation

For question 2 on the evaluation, we were given a worksheet that will help us approach this question and I broke the question down, in order to make it clear and concise.

Planning Evaluation Q1

Planning Evaluation Q1

"In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?"

How will  you approach this question- what will you say?

  • Use of colour
  • Four way split screen
  • The use of hand- held camera
  • Fairy Cakes: These are seen to be on trend right now
  • Swearing + Graffiti - challenging genre conventions
  • Animations- e.g. Flip Book
  • Fast Pace
  • Nabilla J can be compared to Lilly Allen in terms of defying female stereotypes
All the above bullet points helps us to understand that "Foundations" displays a fun atmosphere! When creating my real evaluation Q1- I hope to use Slideshare as a different method of presentation and use of ICT.

Ancillary Work: Receiving Feedback

After the completion of my ancillary work, I decided to show it to my family members and friends and below is a  list of what they liked:

  • Facial expressions- viewers said that Nabilla J's facial expressions were warm and welcoming, almost as if audiences knew her personally
  • Colour scheme- They liked how I stayed true to my colour scheme throughout my digipak and magazine advert and felt that it all fit together really well
  • Message- After seeing the message, everyone commented on how original it was- they said that if Nabilla J was a real artist then messages like that would really inspire people
  • Genre- They also said that the digipak and magazine advert make it easy to identify the genre that the artist lives up to- which in our case is Indie Pop. Viewers said they liked how we used an older car for the cover rather than a newer and modern car to show the vintage side to it all

Ancillary Work: Colour Change

Having chosen a colour scheme with my group and also choosing individual colour's from colour selector on Photoshop from our pictures- I have decided to go along with using another colour for my magazine advert. The reason why I used this green for "The Debut Album" on the ad was because, I felt that everything was very matching and made my ad look boring- so in adding another colour it made my advert look a bit more  original and definitely stands out more.

Progress Review Blog

Progress Review

Reflect back on your blog entries for the ancillary research and planning: how satisfied are you with the quality of your blogging work?

As the blogging process has developed, I have continued to do extra blogging tasks as well as following the blogging guidelines given to us by our media teacher. Some of the extra blogging tasks that I did independently has helped me when creating my ancillary products on Photoshop and documents the development of my ancillary work from start to finish. Overall, I am proud of my blogging and hope to continue at the pace that I am currently working at.

How many different pieces of ICT have you used, and how successfully do you feel this integration of ICT is?

From the start of the blogging process to now, I have used a range of different ICT technologies on my blog as a way to present my work. Examples include; Scribd, Prezi and Vlogs etc. The integration of ICT on my blog can be seen in the way that I have used some type of media technology in all of my blogging.

Set yourself three final targets for your blog
  1. Aim to get 140 or 150 blogs
  2. Try and use more ICT
  3. Make Sure extra blogging relates to current work

PRODUCTION ANCILLARY: PHOTOSHOP WORK

This is my finished inside panel of my digipak. As you can see it is just two panelled (like the outside) and follows the same colour scheme, font and design idea. My inside panel is quite minimal, only having a small personal message from the artist to her fans. I like the composition of the picture, it covers both panels but the main focus is on the left side, and the message is on the right side. The is also an invisible slot in on the right side, where the actual CD will go. The last thing to is the advert...

PRODUCTION ANCILLARY: PHOTOSHOP WORK

This my first draft of my outside panel of my digipak! I've added in all the conventions of a good digipak, and I've constantly asked the media teachers for help on any problems I have had. Hopefully this is a good enough outside panel, but if not, then I'm sure my media teachers will assist me in amending any problems.

Production Ancillary work: Using Photoshop for Digipak

The software I am currently using to create my digipak is Photoshop. Having taken photography during my AS year, the use of Photoshop isn't a new experience for me- so I had enough knowledge on how to use the software to create my digipak. However, the Photoshop we used was a newer version so it was quite different. Above is a slideshow of my digipak being edited in Photoshop. In creating my digipak, I used tools like the magic wand, free transform and different types of shapes. I stuck to our groups black and white colour scheme and also used a blue from the car on the front cover as another chosen colour to use. Overall, my Photoshop skills have developed even further from creating my digipak- which will help me to also create my magazine advert.

Below you will find my final version for my digipak, which I will use to show my media teacher for any feedback if any changes should be made.

Production Ancillary Work: Creating Digipak

Below are a series of screenshots taken to show my progress in creating my digipak:

PRODUCTION ANCILLARY: PHOTOSHOP WORK (COPYRIGHT)

Here are print screens of me adding the copyright details to my digipak. I looked at other Sony Music group albums for inspiration (Olly Murs' album) and used them to write my own. I also included a barcode to make the digipak seem real. In comparison to my other post about actually doing my digipak, this wasn't as hard as I thought it would be. This was probably because I had a lot of help from the teachers!! I will be adding in logos of the record companies just above the copyright details as well.

PRODUCTION ANCILLARY: PHOTOSHOP WORK

Here are two printscreens showing the beginning of my photoshop work for my digipak. The first one shows the images fitting in the panels correctly. it took a lot of work due to the fact that I'm not very confident with photoshop, but i managed to overcome my insecurities of photoshop and get the images to fit.
The second printscreen shows me putting text onto the panels. Once i managed to get the right font and colour, I had to decided the position of the artist name and album title. I wanted the artist name to be the main focus so I made it big and put it at the top,; but i also wanted the album title to be important, so I made it slightly smaller and put it in the opposite bottom corner to the artist name.
I will eventually post more printscreens of more work I have done to my digipak...

Ancillary product planning: Feed back for 2nd mock up

Ancillary Product Planning: Working towards finish product

Here are some photos on my work on Photoshop in constructing the finishing digipak for Nubile J. I liked the sepia that I have uses because it portrays the vintage/quirky theme very well and will instantly attract the target audience due to their interest in vintage fashions, theme etcs. As you can see, the fonts is consistant.  I also croped the front of the album cover due to unnecessary space which was visable on the left side of Nabilla J, in order to establish the rule of thirds - one of the main requirement of a digipak

PLANNING ANCILLARY: ADVERTISEMENT MOCK UP

Here is a rough copy of the mock up for the advertisement. This is obviously not exactly how I want my advertisement to look like but it will be similar in terms of structure. The background image will be the album cover blown up, and there will be reviews and ratings. I will use this mock up to do the real thing but obviously a lot will change to make it better.

Ancillary Product Planning: New Years Day: To Do List

Since its New Years Day, and only one week away from returning to collage, I think it will appropriate to highlight the things that I should do between my time now and for when I return back to collage. I have not blogged for a while, because it was the Christmas holidays - but I have been thinking about all the tings I need to complete and I have managed to create the final of the album cover and advertisement which I will post later on. In the mean time, here is a to do list on all the remaining things I need to do on the production of the ancillary work:
