(Paul Willis, 1990)
This quote vastly relates to me and I understand what Paul Willis was trying to say. Firstly, young women aspire to be like their favorite musicians because they can relate to them. This can be in terms of the lyrics they write, or the ego the portray. For example, alot of young women aspire to be like Beyonce because she highlights how 'cool' it is to be independent (following the successful group Destiny's Child). She sings about girl power and Independence in women is seen attractive to men than passive women - as Beyonce will recall it. Another example, Kelly Clarkson is strongly popular for her lyric writing for the common things that happen in a young women's life for example break ups or being strong within. As she writes these types of lyrics, her fans will strongly connect with her, in a sense that they (Kelly Clarkson and the fans) are sharing a same feeling, which will allow the the fans to understand themselves more and try and cope with the situation.
Here is an example of a Kelly Clarkson's very strong lyrical song, which illustrates that she has learnt to never put full trust into a boyfriend, because people change unexpectedly. So because this 'incident' has happened it will not stop her from moving on in her life. Vastly relate able to a young women -audience.
'Single Ladies' Beyonce highlights that single ladies should carry on as they are, being single, happy, and not under a mans rules. It also signifies that women should not concentrate on finding a man to relay on, but to be your own boss, and a partner will come later on.Vastly relate able to a young women -audience.
