Ultimately, the function of a music video, is to promote the artist and the song. Record companies, managers, producers etc, use it as a tool to connect the artist with their fans. Music videos sometimes express the song in more depth which adds more meaning to the song for the fans. It can also have nothing to do with the song itself, but to just showcase the artist at full power.
